Archaeological Prospectors primarily uses the Bartington 601Grad fluxgate gradiometer with a 1m sensor separation. By doubling the length between sensors (compared with other popular fluxgate gradiometers), the Bartington 601Grad can detect minor features at a greater depth. Features are detectable to a depth of up to 3m below surface. Detectable features include: prehistoric hearths, artifact scatters, living floors, historic foundations, middens, privies, trails, roads, ditches, pits, pipelines, buried tanks, service conduits, etc.
